Week 8 Reading and Writing

I have had so much fun setting up this blog; I've used it for several different projects over many years, and this project is definitely the most fun. I liked created the widgets and having two different columns to put them in, whoo-hoo! I'm also happy with my website; I'm not an expert with Google Sites by any means, but now that I found a chain image that looks good (it's same one I was using at Soundcloud too!), I'm happy with the design. I was especially happy with how easily the Twine fit into the Google Site. I don't know if I'll write another Twine story, but now I know how to make it work in Google Sites: it's so easy!

I'm very happy with my stories so far, and I already know what I want to do for Week 9: there's an Anansi chain tale I've been wanting to retell, and I could use something with a trickster theme. Depending on how that turns out, I will either use the Adam and Eve story as the next one for the Portfolio or else the Anansi one. I really like the Psyche story too, but that one's harder to understand out of context, plus the chain-of-mourners is kind of weird (but I liked it!).

Having that Twine story is definitely my biggest accomplishment; I am super-glad if that can help inspire other people to do Twine stories too! So far, there are four different people who have played with Twine. Maybe there will be more! :-)

I have not been doing such a good job with the reading but that's actually okay; I hope I can find more time to keep up with re-writing the Anansi stories like I started last week. I think that is a better way to spend my reading "time" each week, because I will end up with something useful to share with the class next time; I know the Anansi stories are hard to read, and having some standard English versions could be a big help! If I finish those, then I will do the same for Brer Rabbit... I could retell Brer Rabbit stories all day long if I had the time!

I love doing the stories. That was my main goal in doing the class this semester, and it's working out great.

Taking notes has been fun; I copy and paste the text into a text editor so I can have the font really big anyway for reading, which makes it easy to take notes at the same time.

My favorite image is definitely the one I found for Adam and Eve:

Sculpture from MaxPixel.

Looking forward, I sure hope I can keep finding time for this class each week. But if I don't (and really, things are going to be so tight the next few weeks with going to Texas and Can*Innovate), that's okay: I could put both Adam and Eve AND Psyche into my Portfolio and call it good. But hopefully I will have Anansi and even some more stories too!
