Week 6 Story Lab: Storybook Research

Since I've got my Storybook site up and running, I want to make a list of Ramakien-related resources online to share there, so that's what I'm going to start here for my Story Lab today.

Here are some links worth annotating:

The Ramakien: A prose translation of the Thai Ramayana by Ray Olsson (published in Bangkok in 1968). Online at Chulalongkorn University Library. This is the most complete English translation I've found, and I'm so glad there is a copy online!

Thai Temple Rubbings: Marble Reliefs at Wat Pho. There are rubbings from 152 marble reliefs that tell the story of the Ramakien, with accompanying text from The Ramakien by J. M. Cadet (also online here).

Wat Phananchoeng. This is a beautiful series of carvings in a Flickr album by Anandajoti Bhikkhu.

NCPedia: Thai Ramayana Murals. I cannot find a good index page for this site, but the commentaries on the photographs of the Wat Phra Kaew murals are very helpful.

ThaiLex Thailand Travel Encyclopedia. This site contains some really useful materials like these Ramakien Characters plus this page of Religion and Mythology.

SEASite: Southern Thai Shadow Puppet Theatre. There is detailed Ramakien information here, along with Poetics of the Ramakien with facing English-Thai texts of Hanuman's journey to Lanka. There is also a Khon Masks section.

Here is a list of Wikipedia articles of interest:
Ramakien plus an article on the Thai Rama: Pra Ram.
For other south Asian versions of the Ramayana: Versions of the Ramayana.
Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) which contains some famous Ramakien murals.
Wayang. This style of puppet theater is practiced in Thailand too: Nang Yai or Nang Talung.
Satya Vrat Shastri. He has translated the Ramakien into Sanskrit: Ramakirtimahakavyam.
